* Normally, the tense in reported speech is one tense back in time from the tense in direct speech:

(Genellikle,dolaylı anlatımdaki zaman dolaysız (direk) anlatımdaki zamandan bir geçmiş zamandır)

She said, "I am tired." She said that she was tired.

( 'Yorgunum' dedi. Yorgun olduğunu söyledi.)

Simple Present 

"I always drink coffee", she said 

(' Her zaman kahve içerim' dedi.)

Simple Past

She said that she always drank coffee.

(Her zaman kahve içtiğini söyledi.)

Present Continuous 

"I am reading a book", he explained. 

('Bir kitap okuyorum' dedi)

Past Continuous

He explained that he was reading a book.

(Bir kitap okuduğunu açıkladı/söyledi.)

Simple Past 

"Bill arrived on Saturday", he said.

('Bill cumartesi geldi' dedi.)

Past Perfect

He said that Bill had arrived on Saturday.

(Bill'in cumartesi geldiğini söyledi.)

Present Perfect 

"I have been to Spain", he told me.

('İspanya'da bulundum' o bana dedi.)

Past Perfect

He told me that he had been to Spain.

(O bana İspanya'da bulunduğunu söyledi.)

Past Perfect 

"I had just turned out the light," he explained.

('Şimdi/biraz önce ışığı söndürdüm' dedi.)

Past Perfect

He explained that he had just turned out the light.

(Şimdi/biraz önce ışığı söndürdüm/kapattım dedi.)

Present Perfect Continuous 

They complained, "We have been waiting

for hours".

('Saatlerdir bekliyoruz' diye şikayet ettiler.)

Past Perfect Continuous

They complained that they had been

waiting for hours.

(Saatlerdir beklediklerinden şikayet ettiler.)

Past Continuous 

"We were living in Paris", they told me.

('Paris'de yaşıyorduk'  dediler.)

Past Perfect Continuous

They told me that they had been living

in Paris.

(Paris'de yaşamış olduklarını söylediler.)

Future 

"I will be in Geneva on Monday", he said.

('Pazartesi Cenevre'de olacağım' dedi.)

Present Conditional

He said that he would be in Geneva on

Monday.

(Pazartesi Cenevre'de olacağını söyledi.)

Future Continuous 

She said, "I'll be using the car next Friday".

('Gelecek cuma arabayı kullanıyor olacağım' dedi.)

Conditional Continuous

She said that she would be using the car

next Friday.

(Gelecek cuma arabayı kullanıyor olacağını söyledi.)

NOTE:

1. You do not need to change the tense if the reporting verb is in the present, or if the original statement was about something that is still true.

(Reported Speech in fiili geniş zamansa yada asıl cümle hala gerçek olan birşeyse tense'i (zamanı) değiştirmeye gerek yoktur.)

He says he has missed the train but he'll catch the next one.

(Treni kaçırdığını söylüyor fakat bir sonrakini yakalayacak.)

We explained that it is very difficult to find our house.

(Evimizi bulmanın zor olduğunu söyledik.)

2. These modal verbs do not change in reported speech:

(Bu kipler dolaylı anlatımda değişmez.)

might, could, would, should, ought to, e.g.

We explained that it could be difficult to find our house.

(Evimizi bulmanın zor olduğunu/olabileceğini söyledik.)

She said that she might bring a friend to the party.

(Partiye bir arkadaşını getirebileceğini söyledi.)
